26. DISTRACTIONS |
To achieve the best result in any activity takes concentration. Steering a piece of machinery that could weigh almost a ton at high speed through heavy traffic takes absolute concentration! Any distraction, even just for only a second or two, means your vehicle is literally out of control, driven by nobody!
There are three kinds of distractions:
1. INSIDE the vehicle:
Something unforeseen happens: An insect flies around the cabin, a spider crawls onto the dashboard, the windscreen becomes fogged up, a child cries and needs attention etc.
In such a case immediately STOP the vehicle safely! Then deal with the problem!
Don't kill an insect while driving.
It may kill you BOTH!
2. OUTSIDE the vehicle:
Distractions that take the driver's eyes and mind elsewhere include sightseeing, window-shopping, searching for a house number etc.
It may be an exotic vehicle, a shapely pedestrian, an unusual event or an interesting sign etc, that takes your eyes elsewhere at the wrong time.
For a crash to happen takes only a split second of inattention.

Risk of death
Heavy penalties apply for law breakers, using a cell phone behind the wheel!
3. NEGLIGENT driving:
Unlike unforeseen happenings drivers often deliberately do things while driving, thinking it's OK, they are multi-skilled.
The most common distractions are: Eating, drinking, smoking, using multimedia devices or operating accessories, like the Sat-Nav or radio/CD player.
The use of mobile phones, even hands-free, has become a major cause of crashes. Stop your vehicle safely first, then make that call or answer the text.
One moment of inattention can mean:
Life in a wheelchair!
Operating any vehicle or machinery requires full ATTENTION! |
